Company Description
The purpose of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club is to construct, maintain and protect, in
the State of Maine, a section of the Appalachian Trail extending from Katahdin to Grafton
Notch at Maine Highway 26, to be supplemented with side trails and a system of shelters and
campsites at proper intervals, so as to render accessible for hiking the wild region of Maine.
At present, the MATC maintains 267 miles of the Appalachian Trail ( 1/8 of the A.T.) and 60 miles of side trails. 44 leant-os and campsites are maintained for hikers of the Trail.
The MATC is substantially an volunteer organization with a small number of seasonal and part time employees.
