Job Summary: GoodTurn Cycles is a nonprofit social enterprise dedicated helping people achieve better health and providing job training to young people. Our shop specializes in sales, rentals and tours of electric bicycles (e-bikes), and repairs for all bikes.
GoodTurn Cycles is home to a program called Jobs 180, in which we provide on-the-job training to young people. The goal of our program is is to develop well-rounded individuals capable of securing positions in the professional career world, specifically but not limited to, the bicycle and retail industry. A professional staff operates the program through our shop in the Aspen Grove shopping center. Jobs 180 is part of a network of organizations called One Good Turn, which also includes Cafe 180, Housing 180, and Counseling 180.
GoodTurn Cycles is looking for a bicycle mechanic and salesperson who can join our welcoming and engaging shop environment. A qualified applicant will also help facilitate our apprenticeship program, by providing training and mentorship to our apprentices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for properly taking in all service work including correctly filling out service work orders with excellence, scheduling an appropriate amount of repairs and completing those repairs in a timely manner.
Assemble new bicycles and order bicycle parts.
Install and adjust brakes and brake components.
Disassemble bicycles to repair, adjust, and replace defective parts, using hand tools.
Install, repair, and replace equipment or accessories, such as handlebars, stands, lights, and seats.
Sell bicycles and accessories.
Help customers select bicycles that fit their body sizes and intended bicycle uses.
Previous bike mechanic experience and bike knowledge is a must.
Ability to carry out duties while providing guidance and instruction to apprentices.
Ability to be autonomous, prioritize workday, multitask and be detail-oriented.
Must be able to work both independently or in a team environment.
Mechanical Knowledge — Knowledge of bicycle components and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Teaching and Instruction -- Ability to carry out repairs while instructing apprentices on the techniques and skills involved in bicycle repair and maintenance. Must maintain an encouraging, patient and professional demeanor.
Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Sales and Marketing — Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
Commitment: This is a part-time positions, approximately 20-30 hours per week.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
