Job Description & Requirements

The Product Line Manager is responsible for managing a specific product offering in support of our growth objectives, profitability, and market share. This includes day to day activities related to the product line as well as identifying and justifying new products for innovation and line extensions; defining product positioning, pricing, and profitability strategies; developing and supporting product promotional plans; and managing product lifecycles.

The Product Line Manager must work and collaborate cross functionally to set and achieve business goals through simply articulated product strategy. They will work with our Sales team and Customers to capture the voice of the customer inputs, with Product Development to create new products, and with Creative and Marketing Teams to build go-to-market strategies and develop promotional programs.

The ideal candidate will possess blend of business and technical savvy, a big-picture vision, and the drive and detail orientation to execute that vision.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Create & achieve strategic goals through cross functional collaboration

  • Develop and update product strategy based on business goals.
  • Ensure alignment to demand trends, profitability targets, and strategic initiatives.
  • Prioritize & position products accordingly in the market.
  • Direct the intersection of design, engineering, sales & marketing to best achieve business goals.
  • Utilize market knowledge to develop and implement product initiatives that meet market and customer needs and the product and financial goals
  • Work closely with sales and customers to win opportunities for your product line.
  • Collaborate with finance and operations for practical advice/data.

Ensure product health for the product portfolio

  • Drive analytics and create reports and presentations, internal and external, which clearly articulate the product line's direction and unique selling proposition.
  • Understand Bemis product lifecycles; build & implement a strategic plan accordingly.
  • Ensure acceptable pricing & margins, understand operational impacts.
  • Take action to adjust as needed (cost down, product transitions, customer specific strategies, manufacturing enhancements).

Generate and maintain market & product intelligence

  • Lead market analysis projects for specific segment opportunities.
  • Specify product and market requirements by conducting qualitative and quantitative market research, supported by on-going customer engagement
  • Translate market data, VOC, competitive information, win/loss, and technology trajectory into strategy and products.
  • Maintain your product portfolio roadmap to ensure strong positioning for future demand.

Development projects & product improvements

  • Participate in development teams with a focus on:
  • Business case – objectives, product justifications & financials
  • Product requirements
  • Alpha & beta testing
  • Launch planning & coordination.
  • Post launch reviews & learnings.
  • Quality issues, product modifications, product exceptions, repositioning, iterative adjustments to better meet market needs.

Requirements (minimum acceptable and/or preferred):

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field; MBA preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years of product management experience for a manufacturing company or a consumer products company
  • Exposure and experience in strategic planning and how that relates to the product line
  • Demonstrated ability to perform market analytics and drive action based on results
  • Ability to deeply understand and simply communicate product technical attributes

Specific Skills:

  • Data savvy and analytics driven
  • Utilize analytics as the foundation for business decisions
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to listen to voice of customer
  • Knowledgeable in Apparel industry and/or polymer technology
  • Understanding of product development process
  • Ability to manage effectively through influencing others
  • Ability to identify trends and take action to capitalize
  • Builds trust through reliability on both technical and commercial business aspects

This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites in North America and internationally (up to 30%).
