RESPONSIBILITIES

The Distribution & Logistics Manager will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of warehouse operations, ensuring efficient, accurate, timely and cost-effective product receipt, storage, and delivery of product to our customers. In addition, this position will be responsible for developing and executing the strategy for Import Logistics while ensuring Outdoor Gear, Inc. satisfies the legal requirements of Customs and Border Protection and various related government agencies.

DISTRIBUTION

  • Provide leadership and direction which ensures warehouse operations are functioning efficiently and customer orders are delivered accurately, timely and cost effectively – continuous improvement.
  • Develop warehouse layout (to include key accounts) for efficient receipt of products and order fulfillment.
  • Set warehouse goals in collaboration with the Shipping supervisor and ensure accountability in achieving set goals.
  • Ensure Federal and State safety regulations are understood and adhered to in warehouse operations.
  • Work with Shipping supervisor and staff to determine logistical improvements needed to maximize productivity and efficiency levels.
  • Inspire and motivate employees to reach their full potential.
  • Ensure optimal staffing levels are in place at all times.
  • Hire, supervise, lead and coach warehouse staff

LOGISTICS

  • Responsible for developing and executing the strategy for Import Logistics.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with freight forwarders and transportation carriers.
  • Responsible for all necessary documentation, duties, taxes and freight associated with product imports.
  • Importer Security Filing (ISF)
  • Customs Clearance
  • Bill of Lading
  • Commercial Invoice (first sale)
  • Payment invoice
  • Packing List (Bill of the parcel, manifest, etc)
  • Demurrage and chassis rental
  • Customs Bond
  • Customs Exam Charge
  • Development and coordination of all import and export strategies / logistics to ensure fastest route to meet customer demand and the most cost-effective modes
  • Coordination and follow up with domestic partners on freight arrival and prompt delivery and receiving to our DC
  • Filing of all freight claims with our Insurance and Import carriers on losses, follow up and collection
  • Advise Outdoor Gear, Inc. about changes in the import regulatory environment and interpret import regulations
  • Develop and implement a program of regulatory compliance for all US imports, including but not limited to
  • The Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS)
  • Title 19, Code of Federal Regulations
  • Specified Customs Directives
  • Customs and Trade Automated Interface Requirements document (CATAIR)
  • Perform import tariff classification for Outdoor Gear, Inc. products
  • Ensure that all necessary preparations are made to allow goods to flow through customs without delay
  • Ensure compliance with Fair Packages & Labeling Requirements
  • Work closely with Product Development with informational data, special project shipments, new Countries being reviewed for sourcing, etc
  • Research eligibility rules for preferential duty programs where they exist
  • Administer a record keeping and auditing program
  • Administer eligibility for FTA’s and maintain associated records
  • Develop and manage Duty Drawback process when applicable
  • Efficiently and effectively manages day to day import operations
  • Container status reporting / reviews with Outdoor Gear senior team
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years of direct distribution / warehouse management experience
  • Direct experience in international freight movement and customs compliance and operations
  • Experience in RFP development and contract negotiations
  • Certification from the International Society of Logistics (SOLE) and/or the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) a plus
  • Proven track record of leadership
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Proficient Excel skills
