Decades of Skiing and Riding
Dodge Ridge first opened its slopes to skiers in 1950 with less than 50 seasonal employees, a single lodge, chair lift, and rope tow. That year Earl Purdy, Founder of Dodge Ridge, joined the few pioneering ski resorts operating in Northern California. The Helm Family purchased Dodge Ridge in 1976, setting in motion a new era for the area. Under the leadership of Frank Helm, Dodge Ridge became a progressive and sustainable business for Tuolumne County by continually expanding its market and carrying out significant capital improvements. In August of 2021, after 45 years of ownership, the resort transitioned from the Helm Family to its current owners: Invision Capital, owners of Mountain High Resort and China Peak Mountain Resort in California, and Karl Kapuscinski, President and CEO of Mountain High Resort, China Peak Mountain Resort and Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort.
Today, Dodge Ridge consists of over 250+ seasonal employees, 862 skiable acres, seven chair lifts, three surface lifts, two full-service base area lodges and one mid-mountain lodge. Dodge Ridge was founded by a family for families. Although it changed hands, family values continue to be strongly expressed in how Dodge Ridge has developed and the kind of guests we market and attract. The year-round family orientation of the Pinecrest area – family cabins, Pinecrest Lake, campgrounds, and amphitheater – is reflected in Dodge Ridge.
Looking Towards the Future
Over the years large scale investments have been made in facilities, services, management, and marketing. Dodge Ridge has made several area expansions including Chair 7 & 8, the base area expansion, T-Bar surface lift, upgrade of chairlift 6, upgrade to chair 1, lift access mountain biking, and more is to come over the next five to ten years. The Dodge Ridge Master Development Plan reflects a well thought out, integrated creation of additional services and improvements intended to be implemented over time to continually improve the guest experience. These were developed with the guest in mind and will guide facilities and service development well into next decade.
