Job Description & Requirements
The Director of Warehouse Operations & Distribution controls all aspects of a single, company-owned, multi-purpose warehouse including all retail/business-to-business and direct-to-consumer/eCommerce order fulfillment and value-added services, through a team of front-line supervisors and employees to ensure efficient use of resources, labor, materials, and equipment.
The Director will be involved in the day-to-day operation of an omni-channel warehouse and will be responsible for the delivery of seamless customer experiences across a variety of clients/customer procedures, metrics, and contracts. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Order management
- Order fulfillment
- Value-added services
- Quality control and returns management
- Inventory control
The Director works closely with the executive team in handling cross-departmental management issues. He or she will also have P&L responsibility for the warehouse operation and a good grasp of how sound operational performance and tactics can have a direct impact on the overall financial success of all brands.
This is an “At Will” position and no contract is involved. The Company has the right to change the duties of this employee at any time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The primary deliverable of this position is to optimize the fulfillment of orders from inception to delivery to the customer both domestic and international while delivering profitable operations and continuous improvement to the Company.
- Provides direction, development, and leadership to all facility employees either directly or indirectly through operational supervisors and lead personnel.
- Oversees all daily operations of the distribution center
Inbound product receiving
- Timely and accurate operation of all receiving functions
- Perform all quality control steps per company requirements based on the manufacturer's track record
- Ensure accurate and timely put away of receipts
Order picking and fulfillment both domestic and international
- Coordination and execution of all customer order picking teams
- Ensure cross-training of all customer picking teams
Picking replenishment
- Timely replenishment of all forward pick locations from back-stock storage
- Minimize out-of-stock positions during order picking
Order Packing/Outbound Shipping
- Timely shipment of all outbound orders both domestic and international
- Ensure all customer order compliance
Freight management & transportation coordination both domestic and international
- Coordination of all LTL and small parcel carrier contracts, terms, and pricing
- Monitor all freight-related pricing compliance and invoicing
Inventory control
- Responsible for the overall accuracy of all inventories (product, packaging, and related materials)
- Responsible for all cycle counts and physical inventories, discrepancy resolution, and adjustments
Value-added services and product returns
- Coordinate all kitting and/or bundling customer requirements
- Process all returns and repairs to good stock
- Minimize product write-offs
Account management/customer service
- Serve as final point-of-contact for customers
- Coordinate all customer needs with appropriate warehouse teams
Additional Responsibilities
- Creates and maintains an organized warehouse and adjusts the layout as needed
- Ensures that all Company policies and procedures are followed and that all customer compliance guidelines are adhered to maintain the lowest levels of customer chargebacks possible
- Establishes monthly/annual budgets for warehouse and distribution including warehouse personnel payroll and Capex for warehouse equipment, etc.
- Strives to achieve all monthly shipping goals/budgets
- Identifies cost savings for all aspects of the warehouse and distribution
The Director of Warehouse Operations & Distribution is not responsible for the following functions:
- Building maintenance & security
- Hardware & material handling equipment
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 10+ years in a distribution or warehousing environment in a leadership role
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or equivalent experience in a related area
- “Business-to-Consumer” (B2C) fulfillment experience
- Multi-customer “Business-to-Business” (B2B) operational experience
- Warehouse operational efficiency experience
- Direct interaction with various warehouse/distribution technologies
- Warehouse Management Software (WMS)
- Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
- Transportation Management Software (TMS)
- Radio Frequency (RF) devices
- Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements
