Job Description & Requirements
Internships. 90% of our employees start as interns. We invest heavily in training in these positions and aim to offer a wide range of Alaskan experiences. Our internships follow two paths that are described below. Your first season with MICA is focused heavily on training and skill development in order to come back as part of our Senior Staff in future seasons.
A stipend, reimbursements of airfare, gear allowance and end of season bonus is provided for all first years upon finishing the season. Logistics interns convert to a fully paid position once completely trained (3-5 weeks).
Our Season
We operate in the short but intense Alaskan summer with endless daylight for about 3 months. Internships start on June 1, plus or minus a day or two. Sorry, but no exceptions to this start date. All applicants must be able to work until at least mid-August and most will stay until mid-September.
Admin & Logistics Support
The Logistics Team or “LT” are a small team who work closely with the Owner and Managers to run the whole operation. For our Guests, the LT is often their first impression, they’re the “face” of the company. Strong admin and customer service skills needed for this diverse position, they will be working indoors and out and get a taste of all three of the companies.
They will handle guest check-ins, MICA reservations, guide the zipline, answer the phone, check emails, run the espresso truck and help with marketing, content and social media projects along the way. The LT also help run our remote glacier camp accessed by helicopter!
Due to the steep learning curve, most members of the LT start as Interns and are promoted to a paid position once all basic tasks are mastered. LT Interns have the opportunity to learn a lot about how a small business operates and what it takes to be a successful company, while enjoying an outdoor adventure lifestyle in Alaska and taking advantage of our skills and leadership courses.
Apprentice Guide Interns
Apprentice Guides have the opportunity to develop skills and learn how to use these skills to help others enjoy the outdoors. The position is geared towards aspiring guides and outdoor educators.
"AGs" guide glacier treks, assist in ice climbing instruction, operate the zipline, assist with trip preparation and logistics, and help operate our guest camps at our Base and on the Glacier. This is an internship position and we invest a lot of time and effort in training.
