About Gates Corporation

In 1911, Charles C. Gates acquired a tire and rubber company and set up shop in Denver, Colorado. A few years later, Gates invented the V-belt, which revolutionized power transmission. This was only the start of things to come. We went on to introduce countless other innovations in power transmission and fluid power that have impacted virtually every industry.

Over a century later, we still call Denver home, but that small family-owned business has grown into a global engineering leader with a legacy of creating long-lasting, superior-performing power transmission products. From driving blowers on 10,000 horsepower racing engines to working with industry leaders from motorcycles to manufacturing, Gates has been offering its drivetrain expertise to the automotive, industrial, and engine powered world since 1911. Gates is proud to bring its unparalleled standards, unwavering product support, and proven product development capacity to the bicycle market with their Carbon Drive systems.
