Far Bank R&D Materials Engineer
Our Search/Position Summary
Far Bank is currently seeking our next great R&D Materials Engineer, a full-time position based in Bainbridge Island, WA and a key member of our Product Development team.
As the Far Bank Materials Engineers, you lean into your technical skills to develop new materials, layups, and processes that will improve product performance. This role combines time in the office, lab, and manufacturing environments to research, develop, test, and implement new approaches to fabricating state-of-the-art fly fishing equipment.
The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of composite materials and chemistry, an insatiable curiosity to discover and implement new materials and processes, and a interest and connection to fly fishing. Your primary responsibility is to drive Far Bank product development opportunities, positioning our brands as leaders in the space for product innovation and performance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Identify material, layup, process, and coating opportunities for product performance improvements
· Manage implementation of new materials and processes from concept through production
· Analyze existing materials and processes and suggest changes to optimize quality, performance, cost, or manufacturability targets
· Act in a technical support capacity to support Operations and Manufacturing teams with technical skill, experience, and R&D resources
· Understand and utilize production equipment to build prototypes with new materials and techniques
· Develop and implement test methods as required to assure product quality, function, and durability
· Build strong relationships with existing and potential suppliers and industry contacts to work collaboratively on best approaches for product development and opportunities to develop and implement next generation materials and manufacturing capabilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Understanding of and experience with performance composites, polymers, and other materials, especially as it pertains to manufacturing high-end sporting goods equipment
· Experience with composite manufacturing equipment and operations
· Solid understanding and application of research and development practices
· Experience with mechanical testing and shop fabrication tools and equipment
· Usage and understanding of various types of outdoor equipment and the subtle factors that create exceptionally performing products
· Analytical and technical competency
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Highly motivated, flexible, and self-directed
· Fully proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)
· Background and knowledge of MATLAB, FEA, and Instron or other mechanical testing equipment
Education and Experience:
· BS degree in Engineering or Material Science or 5+ years equivalent work experience in a similar field
· 3+ years of materials research experience
· Passion for fly fishing is preferred
COMPENSATION
· Salary $85,000 to $110,000 annual base
