Job Description & Requirements

Operations Lead

A friendly heads up - if you are interested in this position - drop us a line at jobs@flaik.com and give us a reason to respond. Hint - just applying and submitting a resume won't do it.

Intro

flaik works with 60+ of the top ski and ride schools in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to make their lives simpler, smarter, and better. We're a small, intelligent, fast-moving team with a user base of tens of thousands of ski and snowboard instructors where your contributions will be appreciated. We've been building hardware and software for ski schools across North America for over 16 years. We've won design awards, and we have long-standing relationships with North America's biggest and best ski resorts. We're small, and we're stable. Come work for a company that acts and ships like a startup… but gets paid.

As an Operations Lead (based in our Lafayette, Colorado Office), you'll be a critical player in ensuring that our schools become simpler, smarter, better by using the flaik ski school management platform. You'll also play a crucial part in ensuring that our operations keep the PEOPLE we work with, the PLACES we play, and the PLANET we stand on at its core.

Interested? Here are the Key Areas that you'll be playing in at flaik.

Equipment: We've got 10,000+ GPS units & charging docks and 300+ wireless scanners deployed each season. They need to be built, revitalized in the off-season, and deployed in the winter. So you’ll be doing things like software upgrades, SIM swaps, tag builds, and all the fun things in between. It’s pretty hands on.

Inventory: Keeping track of our fleet of GPS tags and scanners across three countries and two winter seasons (S. Hemisphere and N. Hemisphere) is crucial to minimizing lost hardware, ensuring resorts have the hardware they rely on, and projecting hardware needs for an upcoming season.  You’ll support this effort by performing beginning and end-of-season inventory accounting and maintaining inventory records.

Sustainability: We're committed to total life cycle management of the hardware that we produce - reusing what we can, recycling what we can't. You'll take a hand in helping us continue to reduce and recycle the waste our operation generates.

Shipping & Transport: Gear has to get delivered and serviced. Part of the gig is trips to ski resorts to ensure that our hardware is in tip-top condition, ready for the winter.  Alternatively shipping and receiving when a resort visit is not necessary.

Training: As part of this role, you'll be onboarding new hardware resorts and providing seasonal training on how to use our flaik GPS tags and wireless scanners. Some of this work happens remotely and some in-person on-site at resorts.  You'll provide crucial troubleshooting tips and tools and ensure they have a seamless season.

Service Resources: Create tools that help resorts find the answers they’re looking for more quickly. Such as training videos, documents, knowledge base articles, support documentation, and bringing your perspective and learning back to the team to help improve processes.

Our Expectations

We think laying out expectations as part of the job leads to a better work environment, so here's what we expect from someone wanting to join our team.

  • Display a positive and respectful attitude.

  • Work with honesty and integrity and be accountable for your work.

  • Be flexible about your job and task assignments and be willing to help.

  • Be open to guidance to improve your ability to solicit customer feedback that is beneficial to everyone involved in resolving the issue and improving the product and service.

  • Ask for help when needed and be open to constructive feedback without being defensive or hostile.

  • Follow set policies and procedures when dealing with problems or issues.

  • Engage with customers, partners, employees, and management in a transparent, precise, respectful, and professional manner that positively presents flaik.

  • Maintain a professional appearance and style at all times when representing flaik.

  • Treat company equipment and property with respect.

  • Be self-motivated and reliable and share ideas for improvement.

Your Expectations

Likewise to our expectations, here's what you can expect from us as a company.

  • Proper training, support, and professional development from flaik

  • Timely and accurate payment of wages and health benefits

  • Safe and healthy working environments

  • Full disclosure and explanation of job responsibilities, company policies, and procedures

  • Regular feedback on performance

  • Access to the resources needed to perform work tasks efficiently and effectively

  • Fair and consistent communication and application of policies

  • Credit and acknowledgment for work achievements based on clearly established milestones.

Still, reading? Here are some of the critical Skills and Expertise that we are looking for:

  • Love working with people and solving problems

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

  • An amazing attitude and personality

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Confidence in working with hand tools and small power tools

  • Spreadsheet wizardry - or the ability to learn some basics of formatting and formulas quickly

Don't quite have all of the above nailed? Relax. Tell us what you're great at, what you'd love to be better at, and let's talk about it.

Why work at flaik?

We're a full-time specialist making ski school management simpler, smarter, better. We're a product company, meaning we focus on delivering outcomes and benefits rather than shiny features that don't help our customers. We believe in being the one-stop-shop for ski schools which means delivering tools that enable instructors, managers, and directors to spend more time with their guests.

We've been in the industry since 2008 and work with some of the best ski schools in North America. We're active sponsors of the Mountain Tech Symposium and NSAA (National Ski Areas of America) conferences. We believe in supporting the environment and communities that make our business a reality.

Working with flaik means SIMPLER tools driving SMARTER decisions to build BETTER ski schools. Powered by an engine with the PEOPLE we work with, the PLACES we play, and the PLANET we stand on at its core.

So if the above floats your boat, flaik may be the place for you. The finer deets and brass tacks are:

  • Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,000/year

  • 9 Day Fortnight: Yeah, that’s right - you get every second Friday off (or every 10th workday depending on your schedule).

  • Work Days: You will be required to work weekends during the North American Winter. This doesn’t mean a 7-day week, it just means Wednesday could be the new Monday. You may also be required to work either morning or afternoon shifts depending on business requirements. Just the reality of a multi-country operation.

  • Paid Leave: 5 weeks. As a heads up, we don't subscribe to public holidays here. We give you five weeks a year to take when it makes sense to you.

  • Wellness Benefit: You get $4,000 a year to spend on health & wellness, things that help you be a better you.

  • Health: The US healthcare system is stupid; we all get that. Regardless, we've got you covered. You'll get the best plan that we can find to protect your health.

  • 401k: We know that you might not be with flaik for life. But while you are here, we’ll contribute to the life after (work) with up to a 4% match on 401k contributions.

  • Paid Training & Education: If you've decided you don't need to learn anymore, then flaik is probably not the best place for you. If you want to keep learning and developing new skills, we'll commit two weeks a year to helping you get what you need.

  • Volunteering: Giving back is essential. Whether it's planting trees in a national forest or reaching out to Congress to convince them to lift their game on climate change, we've got your back with 40 hours of paid volunteering per year.

  • Location: This job is based in our Lafayette, CO office and requires you to be in the office. While some remote work may be accommodated, please understand that all aspects of the job are fairly physical and require your whole self present.

  • Travel: You will need to travel for this position. To ski resorts. We know, it sounds tough.

  • Reporting: You’ll report to Kelly Frey, our VP of Operations. She’s awesome. You’ll love working with her. We do. Truth be told, working with Kelly is the number one reason you should apply, and the number one reason you’ll never want to leave.
