POSITION SUMMARY

As a Camp Hand, you are a primary representative of Ranchlands and Paintrock Canyon Ranch for guests. You must be warm, gracious, educational, and guest experience-focused. Thinking on your feet, being flexible, and presenting a clean appearance and attire will be key to your success. The Camp Hand is pivotal to the guest experience and the Paintrock Canyon Ranch hospitality team. In addition to your camp duties, you will be responsible for creating a welcoming and educational environment for guests at all times, answering questions, and helping elevate their experience with your service-minded attitude. Combined with the Wranglers, Chef, Programs Director, and Hospitality Director, the Camp Hand will be a point-person for guests and will be crucial in helping create the perfect stay from arrival to departure. Safety is our primary concern, followed closely by ensuring that all our guests have the best possible stay and educational experience at Ranchlands.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Breakfast service, dinner service, and dish duties after every meal. 

  • Representing Ranchlands’ food program by educating guests about the meat & produce we use, delivering exceptional service throughout meal times.

  • Light and put out the campfire.

  • Keep camp and the kitchen tent neat, orderly, and stocked.

  • Stock and clean the bathroom and shower area, and light the shower donkey for hot water.

  • Lead and assist with afternoon programming,  including but not limited to guided hikes, naturalist walks, bird watching, and fishing.

  • During all interactions , maintain a focus on educating and informing guests about Ranchlands and the Paintrock Canyon Ranch, including how the ranch operates, our mission, goals, and the environment.

  • Maintaining a stocked and orderly wood pile with deadfall from around the ranch in front of the kitchen tent, next to the shower, and outside the lounge tent. 

  • Irrigate, mow, and weed wack camp area weekly.

  • Help maintain the camp garden.

  • Check that all camp lighting is functional.  

  • Any other activities that come up as relevant to guest services and camp.

  • Being safety-oriented when driving ranch roads, operating tools and equipment, and handling fire. 

  • Ability to live well in shared housing. 

  • Comfortable living outdoors for the duration of each week while guests are present in camp. 

  • Be an authentic and passionate representative of Ranchlands. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Service or hospitality experience is preferred but optional. 

  • Excellent conversationalist and communicator. 

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for getting to and from work with.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Willingness and ability to build meaningful relationships with people of all demographics and ages.

  • A can-do attitude and excellent, thoughtful problem solver.

  • An ability to communicate clearly and professionally. 

  • Ability to recognize when tasks must be done and take initiative to complete them.

WORK SCHEDULE 

  • This is a seasonal, full-time position that entails at least 40 hours per week with reasonable overtime expected.

  • Specific work schedules are set weekly and vary according to the business's needs; staff must be willing and able to adapt to a flexible schedule.   


TIME OFF

  • At least one day off per week during Ranch Vacations and Workshops and two to three days off between Pack Trips are guaranteed, according to the weekly work schedule. Further time off will be allotted where possible.

  • Each employee working the entire season will get a mid-season week off (July 5th-13th). Additional time off may be requested, but due to the busy nature of a seasonal job, it is not guaranteed to be approved.  

COMPENSATION

  • This a salaried position at $2,000/month.

  • This position is eligible to receive a share of pooled tips from guests monthly.

HOUSING 

  • The Camp Hand will split time between a residential room in one of the ranch buildings, which includes utilities, and a fully furnished tent at camp so that a staff member is always present to meet guests’ needs.
